The History and Art Collection, History Section<\/h2>\n

The historical sub-collection includes a wide range of two-dimensional and three-dimensional items with more than 17,700 pieces in total. They date mainly back to the 18th to 20th centuries, with the oldest item being from the 16th century. The main portion of the two-dimensional collections is represented by the written estate, the most important and most comprehensive of which is the estate of traveller and orientalist Alois Musil.<\/p>\n

Other larger estates include those of Ctibor Helcelet, P. Jan Vyhl\u00eddal, MUDr. Jan Zh\u00e1n\u011bl, and more recently, Jan Kupka. Among the other documents, posters, maps and plans, and musical materials predominate. There is a significant collection of historical photographs. As for three-dimensional items, books are among the most numerous. These include mainly the Old Prints collection, the Natives and Compatriots collection and the Obzina Printing Shop collection. The Numismatics and Physical Education collections are valuable. Smaller in number, but still valuable collections include banners, uniforms, weapons and other militaria, craft tools, guild relics, furniture, pottery and porcelain, stone artefacts, technology, and household items. A unique set of cast relief decorations of bells from the villages of the Vy\u0161kov Region, acquired by Prof. Proch\u00e1zka in 1942, is definitely worth mentioning. The collection of contemporary documentation is regularly updated.<\/p>\n
