Life in the Past in the Bučovice Region
We cordially invite you to visit the permanent exhibition entitled Life in the Past in the Bučovice Region in the Bučovice Museum. The Bučovice Museum is located on the grounds of a Renaissance chateau, on the third floor of the chateau’s west wing. In 2019, a new exhibition opened in the museum. It introduces visitors both to the history and culture of Bučovice from prehistoric times to the 20th century, as well as to the flora and fauna of the region. The museum also has ethnographic collections on display, especially examples of local folk items and handicrafts.
The modern exhibition uses the current trends in museum management and meets high informative, scientific, educational and entertaining demands. Printed information in each room is complemented by electronic presentations; the comprehensive information is combined with a number of interactive elements suitable for visitors of different ages.
The concept of the exhibition is based on several basic aspects of human life, which form the themes of the individual rooms. These include the production and use of tools, weapons as a means of defence and combat, the construction of dwellings and their transformation into housing, and the region’s social life, death and burial rituals. Visitors can learn about nature reserves, villages in the Bučovice Region, and local landmarks and archaeological sites from an electronic presentation located in the entrance area.
Accompanying activities will allow those interested to rub grain on a grain spreader or to grind grain on a replica of an early medieval quern-stone. The opportunity to shoot a crossbow will entertain children and adults alike. In the relaxation zone, you can find two working orchestrions and listen to them as you please. As a bonus, visitors can experience a view from above: from a replica of a late 19th century high wheel.
Both individuals and whole school groups, children camps, and other group organisations will find something to satisfy their curiosity. A programme has been prepared for them, which will take them through the history of prehistory and the Middle Ages in Bučovice. In a follow-up creative workshop, they can then make and take home their own souvenir such as a bracelet, wire or stone pendant, woven belt or clay vessel.
We are looking forward to seeing you!
The project is organised under the auspices of the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic.
